AF, AF+, AC, AFe+, WW, CF, NL, HHD, aF, PC, NH, Geijōban Dōbutsu no Mori Redd ( つねきち, Tsunekichi ?), also known as Crazy Redd and Jolly Redd, is an untrustworthy kitsune, or fox, in the Animal Crossing series. He runs the illicit furniture shops Crazy Redd's and Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler, where he is known to sell both authentic and counterfeit paintings and sculptures along with overpriced furniture items.

Redd animal crossing items in his inventory are considered "special" Redd items, which have an HRA bonus. He has a sneaky, sleazy, crafty, and sarcastic personality. When the player leaves his redd animal crossing without buying anything, he will say 'thanks a lot.' in a sarcastic way. But if the player does buy something, he will give them a sincere thank you. He is thought to be 35 in Wild World, as two passwords state Redd is that age.

He considers Tom Nook as competition, referring to him as "that raccoon in an apron." The inside of his ears is purple, and he has a white, fluffy tail. He wears a blue apron. Profession Through the Animal Crossing series, Redd owns small businesses that makes most of its profits by over-charging its customers.

Unlike Tom Nook, Redd charges for admission into some of his shops and on an invite-only basis. He tends to pressure players into buying his wares by concocting stories and lying about his products. Role In Animal Crossing Redd as seen in Animal Forest. In Animal Crossing, Crazy Redd owns a tent suspiciously redd animal crossing the "Black Market" - the "Black" being crossed out clumsily in red marker.

His name could be a reference to this, making it the "Redd" Market. When he shows up in town, Redd sends the player a letter telling them the date at which he will arrive.

redd animal crossing

On this date, the player will have to wander around town until finding him in a random spot. He will occasionally sell paintings. Unlike in other games, Redd has a "B" (possibly standing for "black", as in "black market") on his apron. Redd during the Fireworks Show Redd also runs a stand during the Fireworks Show, where he sells novelty items, such as balloons and pinwheels.

In Wild World Redd in Wild World. In Wild World, Redd appears once a week on a specific day (which the player can choose by speaking with Lyle) and sets his tent up outside the Town Hall. On the first week of his arrival, the player will not know the password required to enter, and so will have to ask the villagers.

A random villager will have the password, not necessarily the closest friend of the player. After reciting the password correctly to Redd, the tent will open and allow the player in. The player will then be asked to pay 3,000 Bells in order to use his store. If they do not agree to this, the player will not be allowed to purchase anything, and will have to inquire with the villagers next week for another password. Once the player becomes a member of his "family", Redd will send redd animal crossing a weekly letter, received on the day before he arrives, with a new password.

It is believed that Redd is in cahoots with Lyle, who offers forgery insurance. Insurance can only be bought weekly at a price which does not cover for redd animal crossing cost of buying a forged painting, meaning both Lyle and Redd have made a profit at the expense of the player.

This belief is also upheld by how Redd knows the day of the week on which he should come to the town, which redd animal crossing with the day the player selected when talking to Lyle. Redd's age is implied by a password to be 35, though this is never verified. In City Folk In City Folk, Redd owns a small shop on the left of the city, in what villagers call a "dark alley". To get into his shop, a villager or friend would need to send an invitation to the player.

This replaces the secret redd animal crossing in Wild World. After buying something, Redd will give the player an invitation to send to other players - If they visit Redd's, he would give 1,000 Bells to the player. The entry fee is 3,000 Bells. Redd changes his inventory every Wednesday. He appears to have no connection with Lyle, who now runs the Happy Room Academy in the city. Therefore, insurance does not exist and redd animal crossing forgeries cannot be refunded at all. Most of the time when he guarantees its value, it's real.

In New Leaf In New Leaf, Redd returns to the tent business, setting up in the Event Plaza. He specializes in the art department now, only selling paintings and the newly added statues. Some paintings and statues are always genuine, but most can be forgeries. However, forgeries now have noticeable cosmetic differences from the real version to make it less luck-based.

The fake versions of the normal items are a separate collectable item. Unlike the statues there are certain paintings which are now always genuine. His store runs on a "one-a-day" policy, where he only allows customers to buy one item per day. To prevent loopholes, any item purchased from Redd in one town counts in all others, therefore ensuring that a single player can only purchase a single item from him each day.

He also mails purchases to the player's mailbox the following day, rather than giving the purchases to the player straightaway (marking purchased artwork with a special note).

He also appears at New Year's Eve and Fireworks Show at the plaza, where he sells hats for 300 Bells at the former and Redd's Cookies for 500 bells at the latter.

In New Horizons In New Horizons, Redd has rebranded himself as "Jolly Redd" and runs his black market shop out of an old fishing boat called Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler that anchors at the secret beach on the northern coast of the island. Redd was not initially present in the game and was added with the Earth Day update (1.2.0). When the player encounters Redd for the first time, he will be wandering around the player's island.

He will offer to sell the player a painting, which is always genuine in this first encounter. His boat appears in the northern secret beach but cannot be entered if he is present on the island.

Later on Redd will open up his boat and offer four pieces of art and two piece of furniture. A genuine piece art is not guaranteed per visit and sometimes there can be more than one real piece available.

In addition to the Summer Update (wave 2), Redd becomes the host of the Fireworks Show, which occurs on Sunday evenings in the month of August. Redd sets up his booth at the Resident Services plaza, where he offers players the chance to win raffle prizes. Each raffle ticket will cost 500 bells and grant the player a specific item. He was also featured in the 1.11.0 Free update, again running Redd's Raffle and handing out prizes after a 500 bells ticket is spent.

This time, the addition of boba, frozen treat, and cotton candy can be noted. Should the player attempt to invite Redd to the campsite by scanning hishe will have the following to say: "Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler.

We sell masterpieces by the great redd animal crossing, plus stuff for your master bedroom. Oh, it's you! Uh.you know we don't do refunds, right?

redd animal crossing

O-of course you do. So how can I help you? Your wha? Campsite? Sure, cousin, I can help you furnish your.oh, you want me to STAY there?

You know I'd really love to, but, uh. Oh, a customer just walked in. Sorry, I gotta deal with this. Take care!" In Dōbutsu no Mori Redd appears in Geijōban Dōbutsu no Mori, where he tricks Yu and Alfonso into buying a fake Golden Slingshot during the Fireworks Show, for which he charged them 3,500 bells. Redd insists that the Golden Slingshot is one of a kind, while in reality he had an entire box filled with them in his tent.

Trivia • Redd, in many ways, is similar to Tom Nook: • His symbol is the leaf redd animal crossing the Ginkgo Tree, similar to Nook's recognizable leaf symbol. • His store's tune in Animal Crossing was Nook's Cranny's theme in opposite pitch and they used the same instruments. • Additionally, in the Japanese release, both of them are members of mythical species from Japanese folklore. Redd is a kitsune and Nook is a tanuki.

• In Animal Crossing: Wild World, it is hinted that his age is 35; this is because one of Redd's passwords is "Crazy Redd is 35" • Redd shares being based off of a famous literary work, along with Gulliver. In the first part of Dante's epic poem the Divine Comedy, Dante's Inferno, an underworld demon called Rubicante was considered a grafter.

A grafter is a person who sells things through unfair or illegal means, and Rubicante is italian for "Crazyred". • It is interesting to note that Redd bears some resemblance to a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series known as Keaton.

• Redd being a fox is most likely a reference to the actor Redd Foxx, who in the sitcom Sanford and Son played the owner of a junk yard, Fred Sanford, who was known for attempting to scam people out of money. Their personalities also seem to be very similar, supporting this claim. • His catchphrase, "cousin" bares a striking resemblance to the character Reynard in a medieval tale called Reynard the Fox.

Reynard similarly calls most other characters "cousin" as well; especially when he is about to deceive them. • In Happy Home Designer, when speaking to Joan, she thinks of retiring, but she says she can not think of a replacement. She then says "that wicked fox" offered to take her place, but she makes it obvious she doesn't trust him. Also, she may say she has booby-traps to protect her turnips from "turnipnappers," and then say "Like that no-good fox.

Ooh, if I ever get redd animal crossing of him, I'll knock the sly smirk right off his snout!" Some redd animal crossing things she says are against foxes, telling the player "Just don't be a redd animal crossing, kiddo." • In Pocket Camp, there is a harmonious amenity called "Redd's shrine" which features statues of Redd.

• Redd may be a reference to the Tekiya, a historical Japanese caste of nomadic merchants. They would travel the countryside, setting up stalls and booths in towns during festivals, and leave shortly after.

They had a reputation for being swindlers and were known for shoddy, stolen or overpriced merchandise. • The name Jolly Redd could possibly be a reference to Jolly Roger, a flag and symbol that is synonymous with pirates. • It is possible that Redd’s character was also influenced by "Honest John", a character from the Disney movie Pinocchio.

Like Redd, Honest John is a fox who has a swindling and deceptive personality, as well as the both of them having an adjective preceding their names. However, since the depiction of foxes being deceptive is age-old and spans across many cultures, it’s possible that this similarity is a complete coincidence. • In New Leaf, he has the voice of a lazy villager. • In New Redd animal crossing, he has the voice of a sisterly villager, except pitched up.

Redd will have four different art pieces in on his boat (as well as two pieces of regular furniture). As in past games, Redd will sell genuine redd animal crossing (that can be donated to the Museum) and forgeries (which can’t be donated). Below we’ll go over how to spot a fake.

You can only buy one of the four art pieces displayed, so choose wisely. Based on our experiences, it’s possible for all four of the art pieces to be fake.

It’s also possible for Redd to be selling more than one real piece of art. From counting the name plates in the museum, there are 43 art pieces to find and donate. Once you buy it from Redd, the art will get mailed to you the next day.

You’ll need to talk to Blathers and have him mention the idea of allowing art before Redd will show up. According to a data mine by Ninji, this will happen once you submit at least 60 donations to the museum (fish, bugs, or fossils).

The day after Blathers talks about art, Isabelle will warn you of shady art dealers during her morning announcements. You’ll then be able to find Redd roaming your island. Image: Nintendo EPD/Nintendo via Polygon Upon talking to him, he’ll offer you a random painting for a for a whopping 498,000 Bells. After declining, he’ll give you a “discount” to 4,980 Bells. This art piece will be genuine.

Donate the first piece of art to Blathers, and he’ll talk about opening an art exhibit. The next day, the museum will be closed for renovations. Another day later, the museum will open with an art exhibit and Redd will start appearing on your island on random days.

Redd shows up on a boat at your island’s tiny beach in the north of your island. The beach is all the way on the back of your island, and if you haven’t terraformed back there, you’ll likely need a ladder to reach it.

Redd’s boat will appear on random days, similar to other island merchants like Kicks and Flick. We’re unsure if Redd’s boat has any unlocking prerequisites (such as needing the Resident Services tent to upgrade to a building before he’ll show up, or needing to donate a certain amount to the Museum). Redd can also be added as a merchant in Harv’s Island Plaza for 100,000 Bells. When he appears here, he’ll have two random pieces of art, which can both either be fake or real.

On Harv’s island, you can still only buy one piece a day. Based on our testing, once you buy one of the pieces, the piece you bought will be replaced with a new, random piece of art the next day. If you never buy either of the two pieces on display from Redd, then the stock will refresh on Monday. What do I do with the art? The art can be donated to the Museum, provided that it’s genuine. It can also be used as a normal furniture item to be displayed in your home.

If it’s a statue, it can also be placed anywhere on the island. If you buy a fake, not even Timmy and Tommy will want to buy it. You’ll have to dispose of it using a Trash Can furnishing item if you don’t want it anymore.

Or you can just display it and fool your uncultured friends. How to tell which of Redd’s artworks are real and which are fake All of Redd’s artworks are based off of real world paintings and sculptures.

His shop— Crazy Redd's in Animal Crossing, Wild World, and City Folk; Redd's Gallery in New Leaf; and Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler in New Horizons—visits the player's town or island occasionally and sells artwork and, prior to New Leaf, unique furniture.

However, he can also sell standard furniture at twice the standard cost and, beginning in Wild World, counterfeit artwork. It is suggested through Redd's dialogue that his shop is illicit. In Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Redd also sets up a stall during Fireworks Shows where he sells items themed around the event. The insides of his ears are pink and his abdomen and the tips of his ears, paws, and tail are white. At his shop, he wears a blue apron with a ginkgo leaf on it; in Animal Crossing, there is instead a B.

His Japanese name, つねきち (tsu ne ki chi) comes from " Kitsune," which is what his design is based redd animal crossing of. Personality [ edit ] Redd is characterized as deceitful, selling counterfeit artwork or overpriced furniture and telling the player that he is giving them a great deal, referring to it as a "cousin's discount," as he refers to the player as his "cousin." He is also scornful when the player refuses to buy an item or attempts to purchase one without enough Bells.

His deceitful personality is likely derived from the kitsune in Japanese folklore, which are intelligent foxes who are known for tricking others. Age [ edit ] It is revealed in one redd animal crossing the passwords for Crazy Redd's in Animal Crossing: Wild World that Redd is 35 years old. Relationships [ edit ] Tom Nook [ edit ] In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, it is implied that Redd has worked with Tom Nook in the past, as Tom Nook may mention that he worked with a fox once, but no longer does after an incident that he refuses to elaborate on.

Redd refers to Tom Nook as the "raccoon" and makes several disparaging comments about him. • When Redd first arrives at Nook's Homes, he describes it as "where that raccoon keeps his investments" and remarks that he is unimpressed.

• If the player cancels Redd's request before designing his house, Redd will express dissatisfaction about the cancellation while being present in the "raccoon's den." • When Redd first arrives at his house, he asserts that his house will end up better than "that pesky raccoon's sad house." Appearances [ edit ] In Animal Crossing [ edit ] Artwork of Redd from Animal Crossing.

In Animal Crossing, Crazy Redd runs his shop, Crazy Redd's Furniture Emporium, which is inside a tent labeled as the Black Market, with Black being crossed out. Before he arrives in town, Redd sends the player a letter telling them the date on which he will set up his tent.

The tent will appear at 6 P.M. and stay until the next day ay 6 P.M. Copper will tell the player which acre Redd is located in. He also sets up his tent on Sale Day, and he operates a stall during the Fireworks Festival where he sells either Balloons, Pinwheels or Fans. Artwork of Redd from Animal Crossing: Wild World.

In Wild World, Redd sets up a tent outside the Town Hall once a week on a specific day of the week, which the player can choose by talking to Lyle.

On this date, Booker will inform the player about Redd's arrival. On the first day of his arrival, the player will not know the password required to enter, and will have to ask the villagers for it.

A random villager (not necessarily the closest friend of the player) will have the password. After reciting the password correctly to Redd, the tent will open and allow the player in.

The player will then be asked to pay 3,000 Bells to use his store. If they do not agree to this, the player will not be allowed to purchase anything and will have to inquire with the villagers next week for another password. Once the player becomes a member of his "family," Redd will send them a weekly letter, received on the day before he arrives, with a new password. Redd once again sells (sometimes exclusive) furniture and paintings, but paintings may be fake, which is only revealed when the player tries to donate one to the museum or sell one to Tom Nook.

Redd's prices are twice as much as Tom Nook's in this game. Redd appears to be in cahoots with Lyle redd animal crossing insurance salesman - they work together to try and scam as much money out of players as possible.

After the player speaks to Lyle about Redd, Redd somehow knows the day of the week when he should come to the town, which matches with the day the player selected when talking to Lyle. Artwork of Redd from Animal Crossing: City Folk. In City Folk, Redd owns a small shop on the left of the city, in what villagers call a "dark alley." A villager may ask the player if they wish to become a member of Redd's store.

If they accept, the villager will mail the player an invitation, which will arrive in their mailbox the next day.

After this is obtained, players can enter Crazy Redd's. A membership fee of 3,000 Bells is required before purchasing any items. This event occurs only after the player unsuccessfully attempts to enter Crazy Redd's in the city.

Players will also receive one invitation after each purchase at Redd's store. This can then be sent to other players who can redeem it for access.

In return, Redd will give the sender 1,000 Bells. Redd appears to have no connection with Lyle, who now runs the Happy Room Academy HQ in the city. Therefore, insurance does not exist and any forgeries cannot be refunded at all.

To tell whether a painting is fake or not, the player should talk to the villagers. If one of them complains about buying a forged painting from Redd, that means that the painting currently on display is a forgery. Artwork of Redd from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In New Leaf, Redd visits the town on one random day of the week, setting up his tent in the plaza.

Unlike the previous games, Redd no longer requires redd animal crossing player to do anything to enter his tent, and his wares are limited to art. Within his tent, Redd sets up four works of art on display.

If purchased, the item will arrive by mail the next morning. Each player can only purchase one work of art, and once that work of art is selected, the player cannot change that selection. Like before, Redd's items often include forgeries, although at least one item is guaranteed to be genuine. Attempting to sell a forgery will result in the shopkeeper identifying the work of art as fake; Timmy and Tommy will buy it for a very low price, Re-Tail will charge the player a disposal fee to get rid of it.

The forgery can also be disposed of by using a household or public works project trash can. Unlike previous games, however, identifying forgeries is made much easier.

While the player is browsing the items in the tent, camera controls are enabled to allow the player to examine the artworks more closely. While certain works of art are always genuine, forgeries have noticeable differences from their real counterparts. For example, the Gallant Statue, based on Michelangelo's David, has a cloth on his left shoulder, while the fake Gallant Statue has the same cloth on both shoulders.

Redd is also the vendor during the Fireworks Show in August. He operates a raffle booth in the town plaza, offering villagers a chance to redd animal crossing a prize with the purchase of each fortune cookie at 500 Bells apiece. If given a winning ticket, Redd will hand over a prize based on their ticket.

Isabelle announces Redd's first appearance on the player's island. Redd returns in Redd animal crossing Crossing: New Horizons under the professional name "Jolly Redd," being added alongside an art gallery to the museum in the 1.2.0 April Free Update. After the player donates 60 items to the museum, he will start to occasionally dock a small black market boat called the Treasure Trawler in the small "secret" beach on the northern coast of the island.

Similar to his other appearances, Redd sells art pieces of potentially dubious provenance along with other items. During Jolly Redd's first appearance, although the Treasure Trawler is docked at the player's small northern beach, it is closed; instead, he'll be wandering around the player's island. When talked to, he will introduce himself and will give the player a painting, first attempting to charge 498,000 Bells for it before cutting it down to just 1% of its original price.

This first painting is always genuine, and when it is shown to Blathers, he will accept the donation and be able to expand the museum to include an art exhibit, which will cause the museum to be closed for construction the following day.

On the second visit, he'll stand in the plaza and, when talked to, will mention getting a lot of interest and feeling like he loves the island. He will then return to his boat. In all future visits, Redd will remain inside the Treasure Trawler, selling four artworks for the same 4,980- Bell price point as the initial discounted piece as well as two furniture items (from the same item pool as Nook's Cranny).

Isabelle or Tom Redd animal crossing (if Resident Services has not been upgraded) will announce his presence when he first arrives, referring to him as a suspicious character who sells artwork. Starting in the 1.4.0 Summer Update Wave 2, Redd hosts Redd's Raffle during Fireworks Shows each Sunday in August, allowing the player to purchase various handheld items at random for 500 Bells each.

With the release of the 2.0 update, Redd now has a shop open at the plaza on Harv's Island. However, he will continue to visit the player's island about every two weeks. Prior to its removal in version 2.0, when the player scans Redd's amiibo card and tries to invite him, he will say: Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler.

We sell masterpieces by the great masters, plus stuff for your master bedroom. Oh, it's you! Uh.you know we don't do refunds, right? O-of course you do.

If a player lands on a special-event space while he is visiting, they visit Crazy Redd's Card Shop, where they can purchase one of four cards for 100 Bells. Redd also appears during redd animal crossing Fireworks Show, selling Happy Fox Fortunes to the players.

In Pocket Camp [ edit ] Redd appears in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp as the host of the gardening event Redd's Summer Festival. For this event, Redd requests for the player to plant flowers in their garden to attract Flickerflies, which can be exchanged for various festival-themed items.

Redd can also visit the campsite directly by crafting Redd's Mask Stand for 350 Leaf Tickets. In Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori [ edit ] Redd in Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori. Redd appears in 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori, where he almost tricks Yū and Alfonso into buying a fake Golden Slingshot during the Fireworks Show.

Redd insists that the Golden Slingshot is one of a kind, when, in reality, he has an entire box filled with them in his tent.

This is further supported by his Super Smash Bros. He's also known as Jolly Redd animal crossing, Cousin Redd, and Crazy Redd.

As of the April 2021 redd animal crossing, "Jolly Redd" can appear on your island along with his boat at the northernmost beach on your island (often regarded as the secret beach) if certain parameters are met. Redd sells art that can be donated to the museum, but he often has forgeries in his selection! How to Get Redd on Your Island In order for Redd to appear on your island, you must first make some headway into building up your town's museum.

To do thisyou will need to donate a total of 60 bugsfishand fossils to the museum (these include redd animal crossing donations made to Tom Nook at the start of your deserted island adventure, and the 15 donations Blathers requires to build a proper museum. This means once the Museum is initially built, you will need 40 more donations.

Once you've hit this milestone, Blathers will tell you on the next day that he has begun taking donations for works of art - although he has no place to display them just yet.

Luckily, you're likely to hear an announcement from Isabelle the very next day that, “a suspicious individual has been seen sailing around the nearby islands.” Once you've gotten this announcement, search your island to find Redd (who usually hangs out by the beaches), and he'll sweet talk you into trying to buy a painting for a crazy price - and then give you that sweet family discount.

Take him up on his offer (don't worry, this one is genuine), and then donate it to Blathers at the Museum. With a painting in hand, he'll finally be able to begin the process of upgrading the museum to hold a grant art exhibit on the second floor - which will take a full day to construct. After Blathers has finished the construction of the art exhibit, Redd will periodically visit your island. Since the 2.0 Update, Isabelle’s daily announcements will now inform you if Redd is visiting by mentioning sightings of a suspicious individual.
